The purpose of this course is to encourage students to examine writing from a rhetorical viewpoint. In this college-level class, students will engage with literature in what will be a new way, for most, as they study the "how" of language as opposed to a primary focus on the "what". Students will examine the intended purpose the writer, and identify the skills and techniques the writer uses to achieve that purpose. While the course mostly focuses on non-fiction, students will study literature that spans various regions and time periods, and within an array of genres, responding in writing as well as through debate discussions and presentation. A documented research paper is required. Students enrolled in this course have the opportunity to earn 3 college credits through Erie Community College's Advanced Studies Program.
